Summary
Two experiences are the starting point to examine the relationships between the
needs of Third’sWorld people and the production of knowledge at university institutions,
the Chi Pixab Institute set up by mayan organizations in Guatemalan Altiplano and the
URACCAN University in the Autonomous Regions of Nicaragua’s Caribbean Coast, This
paper discusses the nature of this relationship within the International Cooperation
framework. We adopt a different point of view, reversing the tradicional focus on this
subject: we suggest that “development” Cooperation sould aim to service Third World
populations, joining social transformation processes and struggles that are being
enforced to change their life conditions.
