Solidarity and efficiency, together better
This paper analyzes the contribution of Spanish oil and utility companies to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals in a sample of Latin-American countries. It is grounded on the agreed principle that CSR may represent an umbrella strategy to orient the business contribution to the Goals. A 74-indicator tool was created, in order to assess the effort these companies were making to help achieve each Goal. These indicators were based on documents issued by UN, NGOs, and business associations, valuing the effort that these companies make towards each Goal. We conclude that Spanish companies are not making yet a deliberate and formalized effort towards the advancement of the Goals, which unveil that there are two speeds in CSR development in Northern and Southern countries.
