GOVERNMENT AND CSR IN MULTINATIONAL CORPORATION. STRATEGIC PROCESS

[editar]

Juan José Durán Herrera . Universidad Autónoma de Madrid

Summary

The activities of the Multinational Corporation (MNC) are developed in differentiated economic and institutional environments (country specific localization factors). These conditions create incentives for firms to develop political capabilities to negotiate and influence upon public policies decisions and to a certain extend mitigate market failures. In this sense legal duties in one place only could be done in another voluntarily. Then the social responsibility and environmental strategies of MNCs has to be adapted to local conditions of countries. The process of CSR demand over MNCs shows institutional changes that have improved the governance of the MNC in a global economy. In this process have been important instruments the development on codes of conduct by international organizations, NGO, business organizations and trade unions as well as the CSR strategies by big multinationals.
